Just me again!!

This time it really was just me again. Next stop Byron Bay! My last stop before heading back to Sydney. I arrived about 5 and waited for the hostel pick up I’d organised. And waited. And waited. And called. And waited some more. Called again. Waited again!! Not a great start but eventually someone came to get me – about half 6! Had I known it was going to be that long, I could’ve walked it, in all of about 15 minutes!! Ah well, I checked in and found myself an empty bed in my first all female dorm. Almost immediately got chatting to Courtney, one of the other girls in there and shortly after that found myself in the bar with her and her mates. I was staying at Aquarius; a pretty cool hostel, close to the beach and town and with decent enough, split level dorms. Everyone was really friendly and I ended up heading to a couple of bars in town with Courtney and a couple of others. I was a nice evening and it was cool to have met a few new peeps.

The next day I spent getting to know Byron Bay – it’s a cute place with a really chilled out vibe and it was the perfect place to enjoy my last few days before the reality of having to find work in Sydney was upon me. I mooched around town, sat in cafĂ©’s, wrote postcards and wandered down to the beach to watch the surfers for a while. In the evening I headed to the Beach hotel with Rachel, Courtney and Duffy – all from my dorm – Rachel was only there for one night but we hit it off and have a very funny night swopping stories and watching the live band that was playing. It was scary how similar Rachel and I were. I didn’t catch up with her again in the end but she was a cool chick so I thought deserved a mention!

I’d booked myself on a day trip to Nimbin the next day… on Fred’s Happy Tours! Fred was our crazy tour guide, with big long dreads and a big fat smile. For anyone that knows anything of Nimbin I’m sure you can imagine the kind of character he is. Being a Sunday meant that we got to visit all the big Sunday markets on the way to Nimbin which was wicked, it was all very hippie-ish and colourful (as shown in the pic above on the right). You couldn’t help but feel relaxed and enter into the slow, chilled pace of the place. Nimbin was as mad as expected, myself and another girl on the tour – I’m ashamed to admit given that I spent the entire day with her and she was very sweet, that I’ve actually forgotten her name!! Sorry hun. – but anyway we had a few hours in Nimbin so we visited the Nimbin museum, grabbed some lunch and had a wander round, taking in our surroundings in the only way you can in Nimbin – even encountering a man with a snake in his hair, as an accessory… naturally!?! And I think that’s enough of that you lot… this is a family show after all people!!

The next day, Monday, was my last day in Nimbin, I decided to join Courtney and Duffy in doing Yoga by the beach in the morning which was great, I loved it. Then spent the rest of the day sunning myself on the gorgeous beaches of Byron. It really is a place with beautiful beaches and I know I’ve said that about a lot of places along the way but I’ve meant it about each of them. Something tells me I’m being spoilt!!!

My bus was at 8pm and I can’t say I was looking forward to the 13 hour overnight journey I had ahead of me but I was a little excited about getting back to Sydney and settling down for a bit, being a real person and not living out of a bag for a while! First I had to survive the greyhound again though… on my own this time, for more than just a few hours! xx
