Anyway, after the dramas of the day, we all went to the cinema for a bit of escapism in You, Me and Dupree... very funny! Then it was time for bed - it had been one of those days, I should never have left my bed that morning I tell you! Lotte was arriving back the next day though so all would be ok after a good night's sleep and having my sis back here i was hoping!
I had to work Wednesday morning but Luke was bringing Lotte into the city so I was meeting her for lunch. I can't believe she's back already. I'll let her do a little posting of her own if she wants too but briefly, she's managed to fit in lots in the last 2 months... she's made her way up the east coast, done a skydive and in search of sun randomly flown to Darwin where there were lots of comedy antics i hear. Good work Lotte. I'm glad you've had a ball. Anyway, I met up with Lotte and Luke and we left Luke to go meet some friends from work for lunch and went off to meet my friend Sam, who I'd met up in Airlie, we had a lovely long lunch the three of us then Luke joined us and we decided to do something cultural with our afternoon and headed to the art gallery. Get us! Lotte was tired from flying back through the night so that evening was spent leisurely. We had a few drinks at the Basement and some food then headed home to chill out.
Our plans for the next day proved successful... the sun was out, it was a beautiful clear day and we were headed to Manly. One of Sydney's most famous beaches and totally stunning. We were so glad we'd left it til a gorgeous sunny day to go. We headed to the Quay and got the boat over, out through the harbour which was cool. Once there we headed straight for the beach and basically lazed in the sun, even managing to catch a few rays - Lotte was tanned from Darwin so putting me to shame, possibly for the first time in our lives!! Maria was back from her trip up the coast too and so her and her friend Sarah came along to join us. All we really did was sit and chat on the beach, had some lunch and mooched round the surf shops then headed back to the city. Luke, Lotte and I then went for a lovely meal in the Rocks at the Barvarian Cafe i think it was called. Then had a couple of drinks in town before heading home. It was a fun evening and entire day infact.
Friday came and was a complete contrast, weather wise to the day before, the skies were grey and the rain didn't let up all day. It was Lotte's last day too so the weather was reflecting my mood. I didn't want her to go! We had planned to head into the city and do something with the day but as it was so manky we ended up having lunch at Five O's and then keeping warm and dry in the flat with the dullest movie ever.. Syriana!! What possessed us to pick that one I'll never know.
We had a big night out planned that evening though and luckily our friend Decca, who Luke and I had met in Perth, turned up just in time to snap us out of our lethargic moods brought on by the rain and the movie. He arrived, along with a bottle of Jaergermeister and it all becomes a bit of a blur from there on in!! haha - just kidding, the blurring started a few hours later, at least!! We got ourselves glammed up, drank way too much of the Jaergermeister and headed out into the city. First stop 'Minus 5' - a bar completely made of ice, with ice glasses, ice sculptures and the obvious -5 degrees temperature! I believe there's one similar in London.
You book a 30 minute slot (you're not allowed to stay in there longer) and don sext eskimo coats, husky boots and big gloves before entering what's basically a fridge. You pay an entry fee of $40 which includes a couple of very potent cocktails. So, those, coupled with the drinks at the flat, kickstarted our revelries for the evening - I think the others in the ice bar were somewhat baffled by these 4 bouncing, crazy people dancing all over the place and generally being daft. After we'd used our time up there we jumped in a cab to Cargo in Darling Harbour to carry on the dancing - and there was lots of it - not to mention a comedy drunken phonecall to Brad - Dec's friend who we'd also met in Darwin but who's living up in Queensland now so couldn't come visit - apologies for our drunken banter Brad, I hope we made some sense and made you chuckle at least! Pic to the right btw is Lotte about to neck a shot of Jaegermeister... looking a little apprehensive there Lotte??!!
Once we'd 'done' Cargo we jumped in another cab and made our way to The X.. a club called Dragonfly to be exact. None of us had been there
before and it was cool and basically a continuation of the dancing and drinking that had already been going on that evening. I think we made it home somewhere around 3 or 4am and then there was a comical moment where the 4 of us combined weights managed to break the bed we'd all collapsed on... oops, we'll have to think of a story for that one so we don't lose our bond!! Somewhere between then and morning, I fell asleep and woke up at 9am in my bed, still half in my clothes from the night before and with no recollection of how i'd got there... thank god for good friends... putting me to bed when I clearly wasn't capable of getting there myself. Now, i never get so drunk that i can't remember things or can make sure i get to bed myself... so i can only say... Dec, you're a bad influence! It must be your fault cos it's the first time you've come visit and it's not happened before, at least not on this trip! haha! Anyway, it was a wicked night and a good send off for Lotte I think... packing in the morning and getting her to the airport in time was intertesting though.
We did manage it though. Dec was sticking around on Saturday as he had a night shift so was going to work from ours so very sweetly drove us all to the airport to see Lotte off. I'll admit again that there were tears and lots of them. Usually it's Lotte that's the one that gets upset at times like this, not this time... nope, this time it was yours truly!! I found myself balling my eyes out, not wanting her to go and feeling very scared at the propsect of being on my own again!
After the turmoil of leaving Lotte at the airport, Luke, Decca and I headed back to Beach Street to relax for the afternoon, we chilled out and chatted then went for a walk down to the beach and the rock pools to get some fresh air and perk ourselves up abit. It was gorgeous down by the beach that day and again reminded me why I love living here. After dinner at home Dec left for work and Luke and I decided to get oursevles out the house for a bit. As we did have the energy to do anything too strenuous we just headed down to the Palace for a few and whiled away a few hours gossiping and people watching.. dancing girl entertained us for a fair old while eh Luke! The next day we spent leisurely, went to Bondi Junction to look round the shops then had dinner at Five O's- can you tell we're getting lazy with the whole catering for ourselves thing!! oops.. not ideal for soon to be skint backpackers again!

Lotte; my beautiful big sis, it's been so so fab having you here, I'm so glad you came out, for your sake as well as mine, I hope you had ridiculous amounts of fun, I love you lots and I can't wait to see you (and Mum and Map obviously) when I get home! and don't forget Trish's mum's advice.... 'the only way.....' you know what i'm talking about!!! ;-) xxxx
